The concept of dating is about as old as the automobile. Nowadays we are so used to it that we might not be able to imagine any other approach to relationships. But back before the car, the reason why a man would invest time with a woman was to see if she was a potential marriage partner. The reason he expressed romantic interest was to woo her toward that lifelong commitment. This process usually took place within the context of family activities. When the car was invented, this courting could be divorced from spending time with family because the couple could leave the family behind. Soon, the whole point of spending time together shifted from discernment of marriage to wooing for the sake of wooing. Many people would begin a relationship simply because they found the other to be cute and fun. This put a new spin on the focus of relationships, and short-term relationships became commonplace.

In an exclusive relationship, for a guy to date another girl is to be unfaithful to his girlfriend. However, if he had communicated serious interest in me I would probably not allow him to pursue me any more as I would see that he is not interested in me enough.
Why pursue me and communicate serious interest if he liked me so little as to consider someone else at the same time? His behaviour would put me off. When courting a woman, a guy will usually choose to not pursue anyone else. He is my number one priority after God. God, my family, my friends, unbelievers and my church family are still my major priorities. I just have an additional priority in a long list.
We are in a committed relationship.

I’d never “date” a guy I didn’t know. I’d have to know enough about him ahead of time to know if he’s a quality guy or not. I’d also not be so much about “dates” as just “doing” things together. I’d want to be able to do some ministry together – hang out with friends, and do fun things. If there was ever a point where I didn’t think the relationship was worth continuing to pursue, then I’d let them know. No sense in putting time into a lost cause.
With my girls who are now 15 and 17 , we’re really encouraging them to wait a bit until they start dating and they’ve taken it to heart so far and to concentrate on their schooling and growing in the Lord.

The term is taken from a verse in Proverbs, which says: I was one of nine children, and our family was just on the large end of “normal” in size. Really, it was downright small: We didn’t need to use all the seats in our passenger van to get to church. I was brought up to be just one more weapon in this terrible faith-based arsenal, but I didn’t quite hit the target.

Not just word games, but a different perspective. The youth of today are getting ripped off. Instead of enjoying their teen years as they build skills and character, they are getting distracted into the quagmire of relationships which they are not equipped to conduct. The teen years are those where they have the fewest responsibilities at the same time as having their greatest energy level. These should be fun times, exciting times.
They should be an opportunity to develop a deep, intimate and personal walk with God, establishing themselves as young warriors who know the Father and have overcome the evil one 1 John 2: Unfortunately, however, our culture teaches our singles to engage in multiple dating relationships as though it were a normal and useful practise. The truth is, the modern dating system has only been around for less than a century. And it is my conviction that the wordly system of dating, as it is currently conducted by most people, is far from God’s original plan, as described in the Bible.
I intend to expose the flaws I see in today’s dating model, and at the same time point out how Biblical courtship addresses these flaws. We need to find out what God’s plan for relationships is, and then follow it.

Maturity and readiness for marriage are not considerations in the decision to date. Instead, couples usually date with the selfish goals of having fun and enjoying romantic attachments.
In contrast, courtship is undertaken only when both parties are prepared to make a commitment to marriage. Dating tries to answer the question, How can I find the one who will make me happy? Courtship strives to answer the question, How can I honor God and discern His direction regarding my life partner? As though anyone who chooses dating is selfish, impulsive, immature, and have no understanding of commitment and absolutely no boundaries.
