Overview The Army’s policy regarding senior-subordinate relationships imposes prohibitions on many personal and business relationships between officers and enlisted service members. The policy does, however, permit many relationships in settings such as community-based organizations, church activities, sports events, and family and unit social functions. This is one of the bigger perks in becoming an Officer. Enlisted men and women are kept lower on the pay scale. Enlisted men and women also have a tendency to be moved more frequently, and are subject to less of the traditional perks that go along with becoming an Officer.
Officers do not have the same type of demands for change. Many people tend to believe that there is a great difference in the degree of respect one receives. This is not entirely true. While Officers tend to be perceived as having greater respect, one cannot expect to be handed respect in the armed forces without earning it. Email Bio Follow April 27, Two Fairfax County police officers use a video simulator to practice their approach to a woman wielding a knife. Researchers at Washington State University used a similar device to measure how officers react to black and white suspects in identical scenarios. But now a new study has found exactly the opposite: The results come from a laboratory project at Washington State University using highly realistic police simulators, in which actors in various scenarios approach and respond to officers on large, high-definition video screens in an attempt to recreate critical situations on the street.
James and Bryan J. Vila — have set up simulations to monitor the differing reactions of police when confronted by white or black suspects. In , a statistical study showed that black people comprised 12 percent of the population but committed 43 percent of the killings of officers. So she has turned to the lab to try to simulate the circumstances officers face on the job, keeping all the factors identical within a scenario — type of weapon, body language and spoken threats, clothes, surroundings — except the race of the suspect.
In two previous tests using police simulators, James monitored the neurophysiological reactions, such as brain waves, of both police officers and civilians to deadly encounters. The participants were almost all white 76 of 80 and nearly all male 71 , which James said was reflective of the Spokane department, and they had an average age of 40 and experience of more than 14 years.
The officers came into the lab on four occasions between August and November , before the uproar ignited by police shootings in Ferguson, Mo. On each day, they would face six scenarios, involving both armed and unarmed suspects who were both black and white.

The enlisted SM is not and cannot use it to their advantage in anyway.
The two met in a bar and as the put it “time stood still” when they first saw each other.
